Charles Vigil

February 3, 1947 — October 12, 2023

Charles J. Vigil, 76, peacefully passed away the early morning of October 12, 2023 with his family by his side. He is  survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Louise Vigil and daughter Valerie (Mike) Quintana; his brother Eluid F. (Clara) Vigil, sister Erlinda (Marvin) Hourigan; sisters-in-law: Connie Proulx, Dolores Schneider, Patricia Martinez; brother-in-law David Fernandez; mother-in-law Emily Fernandez; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Carmen Lou and Eluid Vigil.

Charles was also known by many of his friends as “Chuck, Charles, Charlie.” He worked as a blade man and moved all over the state but eventually lived and worked in the Santa Fe area. He worked on the Cochiti Dam, Trinidad Dam, Santa Rosa Dam. He also worked on several roads including parts of northern I-25. He loved hunting and fishing; and taking Louise boating wherever she wanted to go. He enjoyed traveling overseas and spending time with family and friends. One of his most memorable family trips was to Australia and New Zealand.

He served in the Army National Guard; was a member of the American Legion Post #1 and served as Vice President of the Fraternal Orde of Eagles #2811, where he was a member for 33 years. While there, he worked on several community projects which encompassed what the Eagles are known for,  “People Helping People.”

Services will be held in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Santa Maria de la Paz, 11 College Ave. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am with Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am. Interment services to follow at Rivera’s Family Funeral Home on 417 East Rodeo Road.

Pallbearers: Aaron Hourigan and David E. Vigil. Honorary Pallbearers: Eluid F. Vigil, Alex Vigil, David A. Vigil, Mike Quintana, David Fernandez, Rafael Hernandez, Marvin Hourigan, and Tod Agenbroad.
