CHARLOTTE LEVIN Born in Glendale, CA May 5, 1930, died in Espanola, NM on December 20, 2011. She was buried in Gates of Heaven Cemetery according to the Orthodox Jewish tradition with Rabbi Levertov of Chabad officiating. She is survived by her husband Sheldon and her son Monty. Charlotte graduated from UC Berkley with honors and received a MA in anthropology and linguistics from Catholic University in Washington, DC. She married Sheldon in 1953 and worked as a linguist for the US State Dept. She lived and worked in Israel for two years and returned to become active in the civil rights movement. She then joined the Jewish Defense League and was arrested for civil disobedience numerous times protesting the treatment of Jews in the Soviet Union. After retirement Charlotte and her husband traveled to all of the continents including Antarctica, 53 countries in all, and to every one of our United States. She was an avid hiker and trekked many, many of the trails in Northern NM and Colorado until poor health stopped the physical activity but not her indomitable spirit. She succumbed to the ravages of two rare diseases, but was positive and outgoing until her death. May she rest in peace.
