Born on December 27, 1934, Christella went to our Lord on July 30, 2023 at the age of 88. Born and raised in Santa Fe on banana hill, Christella was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many.
Christella was preceded in death by her in-laws Julian and Domitila Noedel, her parents Victor and Annie Romero, her husband Julian Jr., daughter Roseanne Noedel, brother and sisters-in-law Victor and Mary Romero, Rudy and Beatrice Romero and brother, Gerald Romero.
Christella is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Carmen Noedel, her beloved grandchildren Calvin & Claudia Noedel, sister-in-law Lourdes Romero, compadres Alfonso & Lorraine DeHerrera, dear niece and cousin Jorene Sandoval & Olinda Garcia, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A devout catholic, Christella dedicated her life to Jesus and Mary as an example to her kids and grandchildren. The only thing that surpassed her love of family was her love for God! Christella was the 1953 SF Fiesta Queen, a crown she wore with beauty, class and pride! She was also a master in the kitchen, whether preparing her famous natillas, spaghetti with red chile, or numerous New Mexican dishes, they were always amazing! Christella was the “team mother” to many of Julian's St. John’s little league teams, where they would take camping trips to Pecos. So many former players say what an impact she had on them. That's what mom did, she touched so many lives!
She was president of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of DOES in 1975, 1976 and again in 1984, as well as a past state president. She retired from the Department of Human Services in 1982 after 25 years of service. One of her favorite things was spending weekends at her cabin on the Pecos River in Cowles. If it was the DOES, her “ladies weekend”, or numerous family trips, the Cabin was her favorite getaway.
Christella will truly be missed by all who knew her. Pallbearers are Paul Romero, Rudy Romero, Joey Romero, Michael Romero, Jessie Williams, Tony Rodriguez, Steve Rivera, John Pryor and Jared Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Noedel, Claudia Noedel, Rick Garcia, Loretta Carrion, Lydia Romero, Leonard Sisneros, Valerie Rivera-Chacon, Jennifer Flores, Cindy Barreras and Emily Schutz.
Rosary will be on Thursday, August 10th, at Cristo Rey Church at 10:00am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am and interment at SF National Cemetery at 1:00pm. A reception will follow at Cristo Rey gymnasium.
