Christopher Gonzales

God called Christopher (Chris) Arthur Gonzales home on April 24, 2022, to be with his Mom.  Chris was born in Santa Fe, NM on June 18, 1957, to Jose A. and Irene Gonzales.

He graduated from Santa Fe High School and attended Santa Fe Community College. Chris loved the outdoors, hiking, and hunting game. Chris was once a great marksman and fisherman. At family gatherings or just sitting observing his surroundings Chris always had something funny to say; he expressed it with a joking smile, while graciously laughing. Chris worked at Safeway in the Produce Department for several years, then eventually gained employment as a security guard for the State of New Mexico.

Chris was artistic with a knack for painting, creating retablos and enjoyed working with wood.  He was a member of the Union Protectiva de Santa Fe. More than anything else Chris enjoyed being around family.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Irene (Armijo) Gonzales; maternal grandparents, Jose and Eufrosina Armijo; paternal grandparents, Filiberto and Catalina Gonzales.

He is survived by his father, Jose A. Gonzales; sisters and brothers, Theresa Herrera, Alfonso (Catherine) Gonzales, Philbert (Janelle) Gonzales, Luann (Dave) Loomis, Evelyn McKnight, John (Carolyn) Gonzales, James (Kate) Gonzales, Wanda Gonzales, Gerald Gonzales (Colleen); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

The family thanks all the staff at PMS Guidance Center with a special thank you to Dr. Lyubarsky.  Endocrinologist, Dr. Alison Sawyer, the staff at Christus St. Vincent Medical Center, and the staff with Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Christus St. Vincent Medical Center.  

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022.  A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Santa Fe.  Interment will follow at Rosario Cemetery.
