Miss Claire Daphne Fortune left this world, claimed by the Rio Grande on Monday July 18th 2022.
Claire was a gifted storyteller, performer, and visual artist. Her charisma and sense of humor were absolutely unique and unparalleled. From a young age, her thirst for adventure sent her far and wide. She found her own ways to thrive, building community everywhere she went. Claire's history of activism included contributions in the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle, tree-sitting in Oregon's old growth forests, and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans. She was a tattoo artist with a style all her own. She was also a proud member of the stagehands union, I.A.T.S.E. Local 18, and believed in the value of hard work. Claire lived wild and free, leaving a trail of art in her wake. The world was made better by the gift of her existence.
She is survived by her most beloved child Pearl, parents Kat and Steve, siblings Keith and Elliott, numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles, and her partner Nick, as well as an extended family of artists, weirdos, circus folk, regular folk, dogs, and crows.
Please take a moment to remember Claire as she was in one of her favorite stories- in New Orleans, riding a kid's bike, wearing a prom dress and a tiara made of trash.
