Consuelo Rael Sandoval

Consuelo Rael Sandoval, 90, died peacefully at home on August 9, 2016. She was born Octobr 2, 1925 to Antonio and Ramoncita Rael. Her siblings who all preceded her in death were Isaac (Isidora), Esquiel (Beatrice), Jose (Helen), Isabel Pacheco (Paul) and Margie Vigil (Ernest). She was also preceded in death by her husband Fred (2013), son Tony (2012) her son-in-law Alvaro Vigil Jr. (2007) and her sisters-in-law Frances Hurtado and Margaret Sandoval.Consuelo is survived by her daughters: Marie Vigil, Dolores Bornman (Stephen), Gina Ortiz (Michael), Frances Padilla (George) and son Martin Sandoval. Grandchildren: Richard Vigil, Anyta Tapia (Mark), Michelle Dowdican (Rich), Fred Bornman, Eric Bornman (Gloria) Michael Ortiz (Heather), Stephanie Bornman, George Padilla (Rosa) and Mark Ortiz (Joseph), 13 Great Grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.Consuelo was born and raised on Canyon Road, she worked at her family restaurant there until she married Fred in 1946 and started a family. She was a wonderful homemaker to her husband and 6 children. Her great cooking was legendary amongst the family, everyone adored her empanaditas and tamales (recipes passed on from her mother) but nobody could match her "fudge". Her favorite time of year was when it was green chile roasting season. She was the beloved family matriarch and her love, humor, generosity, stories, cooking and laughter will be greatly missed.The family would like to thank the staff at Ambercare Hospice for the excellent care and compassion she received from Challen and Sylvia in her time of need. it was a great help to the whole family. We also thank Dr. Diane Friedman for always being there whenever we had concerns about our mothers care.A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 on Wednesday August 17, 2016 followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery is scheduled for 12:45. A reception at St. Anne Parish hall will follow.
