Corina Romero

1938 — December 25, 2020

Corina “Cora” E. Romero

December 31, 1938 – December 25, 2020

Our wonderful, amazing, cherished wife, mother, sister, grandma, and most of all best friend joined her beloved husband Leroy, Viejo as she called him, on Christmas day from the comfort of her own home. Cora was a treasured soul whom instilled her loving touch on everyone’s heart as soon as you met her or she spoke with you. She lived her life at her own pace and on her own time. She would seek knowledge at every turn and read encyclopedias when she ran out of books in the house to keep her mind sharp, and that it was to the very end.

She graced this world with her presence on New Year’s Eve (12/31), 1938 in Ute Park, Colfax, NM. Born to Nazario Esquivel and Teresa Romero. She was received in heaven by her parents, husband, and sister Teresa Reyes and heaven won’t ever be the same now that she joins her sister.  She gets to meet and cradle 2 great-grandchildren, our beloved’s, Mateo Martinez and Maddox Romero, and cuddle with them all she wants as she would have done here on earth, she is also preceded in death by her brother in law, Alfredo Romero.  She is survived by her only daughter Noella Romero, Son’s Steve Romero (Anna), Andres Romero (Laura) and Michael Romero (Sandy), special great grandson, Anthony Romero, Sister Erlinda Romero, brother’s Richard Romero (Christine), Jacobo “Nick” Romero (Wanda), and Edward Romero (Lisa), Sister in Laws, Alice Maestas and Tina Mondragon, brother in law, Richard Reyes, 15 Grandchildren, and 10 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She worked for the Town of Taos for many years before joining her best friend, Consuelo “Chelo” Martinez at the Taos High School Cafeteria. Many there knew her as “Grandma Cora”. She became everyone’s Grandma and everyone cherished her as their own. She leaves behind a legacy of memories that will not ever be forgotten and forever keep her alive in our community all the days ahead. From Rumchata shots to crown spiked eggnog for the holidays she kept up with the times and made sure adventure was always on the list of to do’s. From 1st plane flights to visit her grandchildren away at college in California to attending their wedding internationally in Mexico to swimming with the dolphins, Cora was always up for an adventure big or small. She laughed every chance she got and chuckled often at the many shenanigans she would get into. She truly was a character! You could always count on her for a good conversation too! Filled with laughter and seriousness both. She had a way of making the hardest conversations light and the easiest ones fun. She has left an imprint on the hearts of so many and they will all tell you the same…she was an amazing, beautiful inside and out woman with a heart of gold and such a sweet lady all her own. There is no one she wouldn’t embrace whole heartedly with all the love and care she had within her. And it showed. You could always find her at the dining room table with coffee in hand and listening to the radio or carrying conversations with her many flourishing flowers in the garden. She had a green thumb and any plant she chose flourished because of it. She loved cooking and most of all trying out new recipes on anyone who would come through the door to eat and break bread with her.

A truly loveable soul was received in heaven Christmas day and a new adventure begun by the one everyone knew as nothing short but an amazing, inspirational human being, our Cora. May she fly with the angels at peace and her memory live on in the hearts and minds of those whom surrounded her. She loved everyone dearly and truly will be missed by all.
