Cornelia Kittredge

Maria Cornelia Kittredge, 96, of Arroyo Hondo passed away on May 14, 2017. She was born in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico on December 25, 1920 to Jose Melecio and Maria Polycarpia (Prando) Rael. She married William Albert (Bill) Kittredge on February 19, 1938. The couple resided in Taos, New Mexico, where their oldest two daughters were born. Later, the couple moved to Carter, Wyoming. There Bill worked for the railroad and Cornelia did the cooking, cleaning and laundry with the other wives. During World War II, the family moved to San Pedro, California to work in the Kaiser Shipyards building Liberty Ships. After the war, they moved north and settled in Hayward, California, where their youngest two children were born. There, she worked seasonally for Hunts. In 1976, the couple moved back to Arroyo Hondo, where Bill built her dream house. The couple lived there until Bill's death in 2006. Cornelia was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, brothers and sisters, Orlando Rael, Gregorita Ortega, Eloy Rael, Cleo Martinez, Jose Melecio Rael Jr., and Rebecca Kittredge. She is survived by her children MaryAnn Hall-Peche of Santa Fe, NM, Marlene Brenda Martinelli of El Granada, California, Michael (Leonor) Kittredge of Arroyo Hondo, and Joan (Brian) Chinn of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, sister Euclides Sohn of Livermore, California and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Arroyo Hondo. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with interment to follow at the Rael Cemetery in Arroyo Hondo.
