Cynthia Romero

March 9, 1958 — January 19, 2024

Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Romero Our beloved Cindy (65) went on to her next journey to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, January 19, 2024. While saddened by this loss, her family finds peace knowing that she is not in pain, and we will see her again. Cindy was a compassionate and kind person and found humor even when times were tough, her laugh was contagious. She followed in her father’s footsteps and chose a career in law enforcement serving as a Santa Fe County Sheriff Deputy, Santa Fe Police Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer and with the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. She was tough as nails but also very compassionate. Most of her time was spent caring for her family and she was always available to help when friends and family needed it. She loved gardening and had the most beautiful dahlias and amazing lemon cucumbers. She was a great cook and baker and was known for her chocolate chip cookies and fresh pasta. Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born and raised in Santa Fe NM, to Robert and Clara Romero who both precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her son Derek, her granddaughter Kaylyn, her nephew Bobby Borrego, nieces Jacinta and Angelina and maternal aunts that took part in her upbringing when her father a state police officer died in the line of duty.

Cindy would have been great in family court; she had a way of bringing people and families together under one roof for gatherings and everyone felt loved. Her mother’s long-time friends were her friends, she was their chauffeur to Laughlin, Las Vegas, Nevada and to nearby casinos. She could not go out in public without running into at least one DARE student going out of their way to talk to her. Cindy never had a negative thing to say about anyone, she always saw the good in everyone. She was always there to listen, and you could count on kind advice. Her home was always open, everyone was welcome and for some it was a home away from home. It did not matter who you were, you were considered family. She showed her love by giving.

Cindy will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Cindy leaves behind her husband Gene Fulgenzi who was the love of her life, sons Robert Romero (Heather), Al Fulgenzi, granddaughters Ella Romero who she was raising, Neveah, Reily, Kayla, sisters Debbie Romero (Bobby Borrego), Michelle Galaz (Richard), brother Robert Romero (Lucretia), nephew and nieces Danny Borrego (Melissa), Miquella Valencia and husband Anthony Valencia , Mariah, Lucia, Leandra, Linnea, Shania (Josh), Sandy (Mark), Yvette, Stacy (Victoria) great nieces LisaMarie, Lexus, EllyAnna and Amaya, her father-in-law Gene Fulgenzi, and in-laws Charmaine (DJ), Diane (Mike), Dennis, Jackie (Steve), and Melanie, and her close cousins Frank Maes (Georgia) and Adrian Maes (Gerri).

A rosary will be recited on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Rivera’s Funeral Home and a mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church with interment following at Rosario Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Al Fulgenzi, Danny Borrego, Neveah, Reily, Kayla and Ella Romero.
