Dana May Rodda died at her home surrounded by family and friends on April 6th, 2016, after a two year struggle with breast cancer. Dana was born in 1964 in Durango, CO. She graduated from Virginia Tech University and with a BS in Education in 1988. After graduation she relocated to Santa Fe, NM.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Isabel Urban and William Urban of La Cienega, NM, and her uncle, Jerry Urban.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Devereux, her daughter Isabel Devereux, her mother Marcia Rodda, her father Tom Rodda, her sister Debbie Rodda, her sister Cindy Barfield, her brother-in-law Dennis Barfield, her niece Kay-Marie Barfield, her aunts: Terre Urban, Sally Urban, Margaret Urban, Virginia Salazar, Rita Henzie, Tonie Urban, her uncles: Ignacio Urban, Ted Urban, Thom Urban, and several cousins.
Dana was the founding instructor and the principal of Santa Fe Secondary from 1993 until 2014. She was a dedicated, engaged, and creative instructor and administrator who promoted and mentored a broad range of students with diverse abilities and dreams. She fostered and encouraged students to participate in and positively affect their communities.
Dana’s legacy is one of acceptance, generosity, love, and harmony between individuals. She loved all things math and science, and fostered creativity and exploration of thought in all. She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have been a part of her life.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 10 am at the Chapel of Light, 417 East Rodeo road, Santa Fe, NM.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Railyard Stewards of the Santa Fe Railyard Park. This organization fosters two of Dana’s passions: youth empowerment and stewardship of the environment. Dana and her students volunteered many hours contributing to this community project.
