Darwyn Pogue

October 11, 1932 — August 1, 2017

On August 1, 2017, Darwyn F. Pogue slipped the surly bonds of Earth and took flight into his beloved skies. Darwyn was born October 11, 1932 in Quanah, Tx. He spent most of his youth rambling around North Central Texas while helping his dad in the family’s sheet metal shop. He proudly served in the USAF, and his love of aviation continued into his civilian life. He owned two airplanes, and reveled in spending his free time flying in air shows with his “Rose Parakeet” biplane. Darwyn graduated from Texas Midwestern University with a degree in geology before moving to New Mexico, where he worked for many years with the BLM as a tireless advocate for Native American land rights. In 1967, Darwyn married the love of his life, Miss Catherine Farrelly, and they settled in Santa Fe to raise their family under the warm embrace of the New Mexico sun. Darwyn is survived by his wife of fifty years Catherine Pogue; son Douglas Pogue (Kathy) ; daughters Regina Bryant (Bill) and Elizabeth Pogue; beloved grandchildren Jason and Claire; sisters Diana Huffaker (Roger), Carolyn Walls (Chuck), and Sylvia Overton (Jerry). Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 18th, at San Isidro in the “little church”, with a eulogy fifteen minutes prior to mass. Internment with full military honors will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Darwyn embraced all things aviation throughout his life, and now he is flying to new heights so that he may put out his hand and touch the face of God.
