David Delgado

David Paul Delgado, 85, passed away in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 27, 2023 at 2:39 pm from cancer. He was born on Mother’s Day May 8, 1938, in Oxnard, CA to Antonia (Toni Lopez) and David Valente Delgado. David graduated from Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, CA in 1957 and from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA in 1961. David, also affectionately called Junior by his family, touched the lives of hundreds of people as a school administrator (25 years), teacher (25 years) coach, mentor, and father. He started his teaching career at St. Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, CA, then in the Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, and San Jose Unified School Districts. Behind the mischievous twinkle in his eyes, he seemed to know things about any subject you can imagine. He was always reading, learning, teaching, and loved to spend time in his garden surrounded by plants and family. David immersed himself in researching not only his family’s history and genealogy, but also assisted others around the world helping them decipher centuries-old documents. He was a well-informed, gifted storyteller and could talk for hours on any subject you can imagine. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Calvillo), sons Daniel (Virginia), Antonio, Eduardo (Alma Rosa Jasso), and daughter Maria (James Richardson). He has nine grandchildren: Amanda (Rashad Rich), Estrellita Farris, Ricardo Farris; Laura (Brendan Mattina), Miguel (Bobbie Schmeltzer); Elena; Joaquin Zachary Richardson (Madison Fischer), Santiago Nathan Richardson, and Linda Richardson. David was preceded in death by his son, David Luis. David is also survived by his siblings: Lillian Rush, Donald, and Lisa Jensen (Bryan), and those that preceded him in death: George (Gregoria), Linda, Ronald, and Roland. A ceremony to honor David's life will be held at Rivera Funeral Home, located at 417 East Rodeo Rd., Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505 on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
