David Charles Hickey Dave Hickey, 82, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021, of heart disease, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was born December 5, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of David Cicil Hickey and Helen Hickey (nee Balch). Dave was preceded in death by sister Sarah Henderson, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ruidoso, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Libby Lumpkin, and his younger brother, Michael Hickey, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During his long career as a writer, Dave achieved international recognition for his publications on art and culture, having received the Frank Jewett Mather award for art criticism, a McArthur Fellowship, a Peabody Award, and many other honors. Through the years, Dave also served as a professor in several universities, including Harvard, Yale, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Most recently, he served as Professor of Criticism in the Department of Art at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Dave will be laid to rest at 1:00 pm, November 30, 2021, at Rosario Cemetery, 499 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
