DELFIDO LOPEZ
Passed away peacefully on March 31, 2013, after a brief encounter with pancreatic cancer.
He was retired and spent many hours out doors enjoying nature. In 1942 he joined the Army, later working for he CCA, US Forest Service and the Penasco Independent schools. He had a lifelong passion for fixing automobiles and those he assisted appreciated his generosity and assistance. He worked tirelessly in his fields and orchard. He was a volunteer at the food bank and avidly picked up goodies in Taos every Wednesday to distribute to people at the Senior Center and surrounding communities. His family has lost a true pillar of strength.
Delfido was born in Chamisal, NM to Maclovia and Juan Antonio Lopez, who have preceded him in death. Also preceding him is his spouse, Estella Lopez; sons: Jerry Lopez and Joseph Lopez; daughter, Mary Lopez; sisters: Manuelita Sanchez, Luisa Lopez and Bertha Vigil; and brother, Ernestino Lopez.
He is survived by his daughters: Evelyn Garcia (Eddie), Nora Velarde (Clovis), Patsy Romero (Robert), Carol Lopez (Clyde), Violanda Lopez-Muniz (Candido), Florence Vigil (Joe), Rosina Lopez and Betsy Hooks (Roger); son, David Kuchera; 23 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 1 great - great granddaughter; 5 brothers: Liberato, Emeterio, Patricio, Victor and Luis.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Eddie James Garcia, Carlos Velarde, Marcos Velarde, Nathanial Romero, Dominic Romero, Gerald Lopez, Timothy J. Lopez, Candido Muniz, John Lopez and Raymond Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers: Bernadette Velarde, Crystal Vigil, Elaine Romero, Victoria Lopez, Melissa Vigil and Carmela Muniz.
A Rosary will be recited at St. Anne Catholic Church (Corner of Hickox and Alicia St.) on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne Catholic Church on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 9 a.m. with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery (501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM).
