Delfinia Maria Chavez, 93, of Cerro passed away on February 14, 2010 in Santa Fe, NM. Our beloved mother was preceded in death by her husband, our beloved dad, Juan de Los Reyes Chavez. Delfina and Juan were married for 74 years until he passed away on July 30, 2005. She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Avan Archuleta and Eliza Segura, also by several brothers and sisters and grandson, Melvin Chavez of Belen and son in law of Santa Fe. She is survived by sons, Ernesto (Dulcinea) of Belen, Desiderio (Soccoro), Francisco (Melly) of Santa Fe, Eligio of Cerro, Ruben (Donna) of Pojoaque, daughters, Gloria Visarraga and Rebecca Chavez of Santa Fe, sister, Betty Atencio and husband, Max of Del Norte, CO, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives, special niece, Deliria Vigil, who was always there for her. She was a cook for the schools for 14 years in Questa and Cerro. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, cooking, sewing, doing crafts and taking care of her grandchildren and other relatives. She and her husband enjoyed participating in Los Dias for New Years Day. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League, 4H Club and the Community Craft Center. Delfina will always be remembered for her tremendous love and admiration for her family and friends and also her strong faith in the Catholic Church, she loved and was very proud of her 5 generations and also getting the family together for blessings and enjoying family time and prayer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Rosary was recited on February 18, 2010. Funeral mass was held on February 19, 2010. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro. Interment was held at the Cerro Cemetery.
Though we know Heaven has welcomed Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother, our hearts still feel the pain and sorrow, the Chavez family.
