Dennis Luna

Dennis Luna, age 82, a resident of Santa Fe, NM passed away on June 18, 2017, due to a lengthy illness. He was born on February 1, 1935 in Santa Fe, NM to Helen and Eddie Luna. He married his wife, Carmen on November 8, 1958. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Luna, mother, Helen Luna, sister Louanna Miera, and brother Rockne Luna. Dennis is survived by his wife, Carmen M. Luna of Rio Rancho, son Joe E. Luna (Lorna), son, Kenny Luna (Annamarie), daughter, Helene Luna (Dirk Douglas), son, John D. Luna, and sister, Selene Luna. Grandchildren: Daniell Luna, Sterling Luna, Gabriella Luna and Cassandra Luna. Brother in Law: EJ Martinez, Jerry Martinez, Richard Martinez, and Bobby Miera. Sisters in Law: Jo Martinez, Rita Gonzales, Isabel Martinez, Teresa Martinez, Meg Martinez, and Darlene Luna, plus many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Dennis graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1953. He studied at St Mary’s College in California and graduated with a BBA Degree in Accounting from the College of Santa Fe in 1961. He worked in State Government for over 26 years and retired as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration. He later worked as Assistant Superintendent in charge of Finance for the Santa Fe Public Schools. Dennis also served as president of the College of Santa Fe Alumni Association for one year and Treasurer for over 14 years. In 1979, Dennis received the N.M Distinguished Public Service Award. He was also active at St Francis Cathedral, St John’s Church and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Rio Rancho. Dennis was a member of the SF Tennis program, Elk’s Club and Marty Sanchez Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, basketball and many other sport activities. A Rosary will be recited at 9 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Interment services will take place at Rosario Cemetery. The Luna Family wishes to thank the caregivers at Pacifica Memory Care and Amber Care for their ongoing support and love they gave to Dennis.
