DONALD AARON MEYER, 1934 - 2019 Donald Aaron Meyer, Esq. of Santa Fe, NM, a retired attorney and community leader, formerly of New Orleans, LA., born 1934, passed away on January 8, 2019, after a long illness. His wife, Barbara and dear friend, Mark Kriendler Nelson were by his side. Donald was well-known by many in Santa Fe for the many community initiatives he enthusiastically supported, among them as Vice President of SF Railyard Corporation for the past 25 years where he negotiated the agreement resulting in a major Santa Fe destination The Railyard. He served on the Board of Directors of Santa Fe Cancer Institute; SITE Santa Fe (museum); as Chairman of the Santa Fe Arts commission; as Executive Director of WESTAF: the Western States Art Federation to distribute major grants in performing arts, literature, visual arts to arts organizations; and on the Advisory Boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico; College of Santa Fe; Santa Fe U.S. Post Office Citizen; and he was a former President of Cabaret Santa Fe, New Mexico musical theater company -- all resulting in the Mayor of Santa Fe proclaiming a day in July, "The Donald A. Meyer Day" for his continued work and love for the City. As an attorney, business leader and member of the American Arbitration Association, he had significant expertise in negotiation, arbitration, human resource administration, and board of director conflict resolution. He did development Consulting for Trans-Lux Southwest Corp; was a 40 year member of the Board of EZEM Inc. medical device and diagnostic imaging company and was also on the Board of Angio Dynamics, Inc., where he was Chairman of the Compensation Committee. In New Orleans, where his family moved when he was 12 years old, he graduated Tulane University Law School and became a well-known business, community, arts and entertainment leader. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and multiple United States District Courts. He was a founding Partner in the New Orleans law firm of Shushan, Meyer, Jackson, and Mcpherson where he was the partner in charge of the Litigatjon Section specializing in commercial, banking and real estate development practice. He was president of Gallery Circle Theater, a legitimate theater presenting Theatrical productions and was a founding member of The NOCCA Institute. One of our country's pre-eminent high school arts conservatories. Donald served on their board as Vice president and President for more than 10 years. From his youth forward, he was active and involved, marching during the 60's to help change America for the better. He had a love for tennis which he played from the time he was a small child into his senior years; and was an avid traveler from his early youth continuing to travel the world with his wife, Barbara Levin Rosenberg Meyer, a Miami business woman and Santa Fe jewelry artist formerly of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Miami, Florida. They had a special love for one another and a full life together of travel, love of art, museums, food, and sports. Donald had a loving relationship with his two sons: Andy Meyer, his wife Sue and their two children Leo and Sadie of Burlington, VT. and Chris Meyer and his wife Donna their two children Courtney and Sam of Ridgewood, New Jersey; as well as with Barbara's two children: Dan Rosenberg and his two children Skye and Connor and Lynn Abbott and husband Paul and their two daughters Parker and Riley all of Miami, Florida, and Barbara's sister, Harriett Levin Balkind and her son Devin of New York City. Donald cherished his friends as if they were family. He never found fault in anyone nor did he ever have a bad word to say, and he genuinely loved the people with whom he surrounded himself. The family particularly wants to thank Mark Kriendler Nelson, Jeffrey Hewitt, Mary Ann and Horace Sena, David Lopez, Elvia Traslavina., and Filbert Tapia for their friendship, and care. Also to Dr. Bruce Shaffer and Dr. Eric Anderson for their years of unwavering care. And a thank you to "The Legacy at Santa" caregivers and staff for giving Donald a home where he felt warmth and love and was able to continue his lust for learning.
