Donald Britt

Donald Dean Britt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend went home to the Lord on February 19, 2021. Don passed peacefully at home following a hard-fought battle with multiple myeloma. Don was born 12/31/51 in Iowa City, Iowa and was raised by loving adoptive parents Lige and Lois Britt in Farmington, NM and Durango, CO with his sisters Christina and Ligena. He was a graduate of Durango High School and the College of Santa Fe. Don had a varied professional career. He learned real estate appraisal from his father in law Thomas Gillentine, and was continually learning. He especially enjoyed his time at the New Mexico State Land Office and the friends that he made there. Don was currently employed by the City of Albuquerque as the Manager of the Real Property Division. He commented frequently about the great team that he worked with there.

Don loved the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hike and fish. He grew up skiing at Purgatory, but his happiest times were spent on horseback in the San Pedro Parkes, Pecos and Weminuche Wilderness.

Don is survived by his wife Kay, son Andrew (Bernadette), Eleanor and Hattie of Bozeman, Montana, son Kevin and granddaughter Nannette, daughter Jennifer Schildgen (Greg), and Nicholas of Santa Fe. Also surviving are siblings Christina VanDenBerg (Lester) Drurango, CO, Ligena Hein (Andrew) Battle Ground, WA, John Jones (Carole), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gary Brendan (Barbara), Delbert Jones (Sharon), Dale Jones and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was particularly close to his nephews Scott and Brent VanDenBerg and their families, he was very much loved by his in-laws Tom and Jane Gillentine and Jon Gillentine and Phyllis Bustamante. Don was a member of the Church of Christ and memorial contributions may be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home or the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Don will be forever loved and always missed.
