Donald Kendall

Donald Francis Kendall, 85, passed away on October 4, 2020 surrounded by his wife Frances, son Gregory and daughter-in-law Karen. Don was devoted to and deeply loved by his wife, five children and eight grandchildren. Don had a successful 44 year management career with F.W. Woolworth Company where he was affectionately known as the Candy Man. He oversaw the downtown San Francisco bulk candy department which was one of the largest in the United States. Don was a devout Catholic and was comforted by his faith his entire life.

Don and Frances were married for 63 years. They had a long, happy marriage and were each other’s best friend. Don was a thoughtful, kind, generous, faithful, loving, gentle man who led a very successful life in every way. He worked hard his entire life and always provided for his close-knit family. Don loved to sing and hum. He was a member of his church choir in California and was in the Lads of Enchantment. Don enjoyed his retirement years in Los Alamos and was active in the community. He and Frances loved to go travelling, camping and spending time with their little dog, Buddy.

Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; his children, Gregory (Karen), Melissa, Monica (Dave), Barbara and Suzanne (Matt); and his grandchildren Ryan, Rex, Kendall, Francie, Jenna, Sophie, Leo and Julian.

Don courageously battled cancer and Alzheimer’s. There are many people who helped the family care for Don in his final years. First, we would like to thank Dr. Michelle Carr for her years of care to both Don and Frances. The family wants to thank Ambercare Hospice for their support of Don, especially his nurse Deena. For the past 5 months, Don lived at Aspen Ridge Lodge. The family sends many thanks to the staff at Aspen Ridge including Joann, Dolores, Angelo and especially, Tim and the Four Seasons staff who provided exceptional, kind, comforting assistance to Don. They truly treated him like family.

No services are planned. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or donations, you offer up your good thoughts, memories and prayers for Don.
