Donald Mathiasen, a resident of Jacona, New Mexico passed away on July 3, 2022 in Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his son; Donny Mathiasen.
Donald is survived by his parents; Gale and Virginia Mathiasen, sisters; Catherine Mathiasen, Cecilia (Howard) Potter, brother; Richard Mathiasen, daughter; Ashley (Joseph) Uhl, grandchildren; Constance and Gunnar Uhl, mother of his children Heidi Mathiasen, significant other; Marcie Gallegos and her children and grandchildren; Brianna, Aundrea Archuleta and Aileen Ortiz.
Donald Mathiasen was born on June 7, 1968 in El Paso, Texas. He attended Catholic School, received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, graduated from the Santa Fe Police Department, served in the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department, worked for the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management team. He also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, was a volunteer firefighter for the Santa Fe County Fire Department and a volunteer Chaplin for the New Mexico National Guard of Espanola.
Donald loved serving his community and would help a neighbor any time he could. Donald also spent his time outdoors with his family and friends. He had various hobbies from camping, hiking, local farming, wood harvesting and trout fishing. He was so happy the day he caught his first largemouth bass fish in Oklahoma, and loved when his buddies would call him up to spend time in the mountains harvesting wood. He also had a passion for old engines. He could take any old engine and bring life back to it. He was a very handy man.
Donald also loved his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Making sure they experienced the great outdoors. He enjoyed having meals with his parents and enjoyed listening to their stories of their youth. He loved and cared for so many people. Donald Mathiasen will truly be missed.
A Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at The Rivera Family Kiva Chapel of Light, 417 Rodeo Rd., Santa Fe New Mexico where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening. A Memorial Service will be conducted Friday, July 15, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Rivera Family Kiva Chapel of Light.
