Donald R Morris

d. August 9, 2010

Don Morris wore a white hat in all he did. At the age of 78, he died peacefully and with dignity at his home in Ojo Caliente, surrounded by his family on 8/9/10. A principled man, he received his Doctoral Degree in Law from Baylor University at the age of 20. Following service in the United States Army, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Don was the youngest agent to be promoted to the status of Inspector. He represented the Bureau as Legal Liaison to the American Bar Association, the National Association of Attorneys General, the Federal Bar Association, and other high level organizations. After eleven years of distinguished service and multiple commendations, he began practicing law. Licensed in Florida and Texas, he was also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Morris also built a successful entrepreneurial career. He relished the process of developing challenging projects as much as the results. During this time he also acquired his pilots license, and enjoyed flying, traveling, and boating. Upon retirement, he built a ranch in Ojo Caliente. It was there that he and his wife, Charmi designed and built the home of their dreams. He was the ranch patron for 30 years. The Santa Fe and local community often benefited from his philanthropic drive. He was active with Santa Fe Pro Musica, where he served as President of the Board of Directors. Widely known for his creativity and his ability to actualize ideas, he was a profound influence in bringing innovative programs to the music community. As an example, he demonstrated his love of classical music by organizing an exhibition and performance of the rare Decorated Stradivarius instruments in Santa Fe. Other projects he spearheaded included an exhibit which featured an original Beethoven manuscript. In addition, he supported music education programs for area youth. Many people in the community benefited from his help and guidance. Following his principles of honor, integrity, and justice, his credo was, Do the right thing for that which must be done. A connoisseur of cheap wine, fine sunsets, opera, and music, he lived a full life and died without regrets. He leaves his legacy with his wife of 56 years, Charmion, and his children, Mike and Cathy Morris, Michelle and Rick Delano, Kittye and Moe Mosimann, Ariel and Elida Flores, grandson Justin and Alicia Morris, nieces and nephews Mike and Melissa Harvey, Sam and Joanie Morris, 2 great grandchildren, and his dog Roxie.
