Donald V. Widener, 80, of Montclair, Virginia died February 4, 2017 at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center with his family by his side. He was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Anemia last spring.
Don was born in Prescott, Arizona to Donald and Theora Widener. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years in Honolulu, Hawaii. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Don was an accountant for the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for almost 40 years. After meeting and marrying his wife, Lydia, in Taos, New Mexico, they went on to work and live in Arizona, California and the Washington, D.C. area. They enjoyed traveling, photography, going to the movie theatre, working out at the gym, reading, eating out and watching HGTV.
He converted to Catholicism in 1965 and was baptized in Saint Anthony’s Parish in Questa, New Mexico. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Holbrook, Arizona. He was an active member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Triangle, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lydia; daughter, Annette Stafford, her husband Erik Stafford, and their daughter, Sophia; and his son, Don Widener and his fiancé, Michelle Martinez; and many relatives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 03, 2017 at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Hondo Seco Road, Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Arroyo Hondo Upper Cemetery.
