Donovan Lujan

July 17, 2002 — January 31, 2021

Donovan Kayne Lujan 18, from Arroyo Seco, New Mexico departed this earth on January 31, 2021. Donovan was born on July 17, 2002 in Los Alamos New Mexico to his loving parents Damien and Misty Lujan. Donovan was the first grandchild for Joseph and Mickie Schiel. A few years later his beloved sister Alora was born. Donovan loved all things sports including the 49ers just like his dad, as well as running track and cross country. He also loved to create music with his friends and even turned his closet into a recording studio.

During Donovan’s senior year in high school and freshman year in college Donovan drove his BMW 335i.  Donovan spent many hours researching, planning, and talking about how he was going to make the car as unique as his beautiful soul.  In addition to the BMW Donovan worked at Safeway in Seattle and was able to save up enough money to purchase his Kawasaki Ninja.  Everyone knew Donovan on the motorcycle, some of the parents and coaches constantly worried about him and one would even follow home every day after practice.  Donovan always knew that and would drop her a wave as they went separate directions.  Whether he was riding on two wheels or driving down the road in his BMW the road brought Donovan peace and freedom.

Most of Donovan’s life he would drown himself in music.  Moving from genre to genre.  One of Donovan’s favorite past times was to attend concerts and mix it up in the mosh pits.  Donovan took much pride in his hair going from multicolored dreads to a purple and pink fade hair color.

After a year in Seattle Donovan decided to move back to New Mexico to finish his senior year at Pojoaque High School with his friends. With the pandemic that consumed the world Donovan’s senior year was proved to be quite difficult as was his introduction to college.  The pandemic limited his true love.  Spending time with his homies.

Donovan had chosen to live up the road from Nana while starting his second semester in college.  After his first semester was cut short because of COVID he had chosen to move forward with online classes.

To those that knew Donovan he was the clown always raising a ruckus. Even when clowning around he always remained respectful to those around him.  Those who knew Donovan well understood he was a genuine person loving person with a huge heart. Always fighting for the underdogs.

From younger children to older adults Donovan was always able to carry a conversation. Donovan took tremendous pleasure in discussing hard topics and making you rethink what you have always believed.  Donovan was an incredible intelligent young man with a bright future in front of him.

Donovan will be missed by his family and friends.  While he is not here with us in person Donovan’s left a little of his beautiful soul in each and every person he touched.

Donovan is survived by his parents Misty and Damien Lujan, sister Alora Lujan, grandmother, Mickie Schiel and grandfather Ralph Lujan, grandfather Paul Valdez, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Joseph Schiel III “Papa” who we lost in October, and grandmother Tami McClary.

Donovan’s family would like to thank everyone for their kind words, memories as well as support for the family during this difficult time. A combined memorial service for Donovan and his grandfather Joe will be scheduled at a future date where we can all be together to celebrate the lives of these two amazing men.

Honorary pallbearers: Ricky Sandoval, Andres Soveranez, Isaiah Delgado Flores, Isaiah Duran, Santiago Romero, Joseph Rendon, Jacen Lujan, Brayan Chiquito
