Dora was born on July 27, 1933 in Potrero, NM to Juan and Encarnacion (Chonita) Sandoval. She was the sixth child in a family of seven- four brothers and three sisters. Dora is preceded in death by her daughter and son in law, Bernadette and Greg Ohlemacher, granddaughter Marlene, parents Juan and Encarnacion, brothers, Ruben, Adonaiz, Solomon, and Apolonio, sisters, Jane and Irene. Dora was blessed with five sons and three daughters, fifteen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. As a devout Catholic, she was a parishioner at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community, and taught her children the importance of a spiritual foundation.
In 2006, Dora graduated from the Santa Fe Community College with a degree in Paralegal Studies. She loved to travel with her friends, visiting landmarks within the United States, as well as traveling internationally. Her destination of choice was anywhere Bernadette and Greg were stationed, specifically Hawaii and Alaska. Dora loved to dance and was an honorary member of Los Coloniales dance group. She was also an active participant of the weight loss group, TOPS, where she made wonderful friendships and shared many laughs and memories.
Throughout her life, our mom epitomized strength in the face of adversity; from overcoming losing her parents and most of her siblings, enduring the demise of a 33-year-old marriage, to losing a daughter and son in law to a heinous crime. Our mom faced any obstacle with faith and determination, certain that no matter what, God would provide. As a woman of conviction, our mom was often described as spunky and feisty, but just as she showcased these characteristics, she loved with her whole heart.
Mom, thank you…thank you for everything. Your legacy will live on through your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and we will continue to honor your legacy with dignity and grace.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to mom’s caregiver, Alejandra Velasquez-your patience and love you showed our mom did not go unnoticed and we are forever grateful. Family friend, Anita Velasco-for your unconditional love, support and presence during mom’s final moments. I hope you know the difference you have made. To the many family members, friends, and coworkers who provided calls, texts, emails, cards and food, your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated.
Thank you, Father Dan, Father Joel and Deacon Eloy, for helping us honor our mom. Lastly, thank you to the staff at Rivera Funeral home, specifically Jody, Tiffany, Bill, Sandra and Marvin. Your care and compassion far exceeded our expectations…from our hearts, THANK YOU!
