Doris Ramirez went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 12, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Delacruz Ramirez; son, Robert Ramirez; granddaughter, Baby Isabella Marie; son-in-law, Fernando Rivera; her parents; sisters, Elvira & Phoebe Chaparro; brothers, Miguel & Albert Chaparro. She is survived by her loving family; daughter Barbara Rivera; son, Michael (Sandra) Ramirez; grandchildren, Erik (Melanie) Ramirez, Samantha Ramirez, Michaeleen Ramirez, great grandchildren, Isaiah Madril and Gabriel Gonzales; sisters-in-law, Suzanna Ramirez and Ann Chaparro; best friend, Queta Diaz from El Paso; and many other relatives, and friends. Doris was born in Alamogordo on March 12, 1916 to Ignacia Lopez and Miguel Chaparro. She lived mostly in El Paso where she graduated from Bowie High School. She met Joseph during WWII in Las Cruces. They married in 1940, moved to Santa Fe in 1949 when Joseph took a job with the State Highway Department. Doris was a sales clerk at JC Penney until her retirement. She and Joseph traveled yearly for 25 years to attend Josephs military reunions. They also traveled to various countries, including, China, Thailand, Hawaii, Mexico, Spain. Doris was an avid gardener and had had a showcase garden at home. She was a member of the Casa Alegre Garden Club for 40 years and won many ribbons for her beautiful flower arrangements. Her family will cherish her memories and we are thankful to our Lord for the many years He shared her with us. We learned from her a lifetime of values from watching how she coped with daily life. She was a loving, kind, compassionate woman with a charitable heart. She was a devout Christian who always found time to pray to our Lord daily.
A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 16, 2009, 6:00 p.m. at St. John s Catholic Church, 1301 Osage Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 17, 2009, 9 a.m. at St. Johns. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Erik Ramirez, Samantha Ramirez, Greg Chaparro, Steve Chaparro, Emilio Enriquez and Freddy Arellano.
