Douglas M. Smith, MD, 75, passed away on April 8th, 2009.
Some of his treasured accomplishments included being an Air Force Captain in Vietnam; Chief of Radiology at St Lukes Hospital in Cleveland, OH and at St Marys Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida; Owner of the Historic Taos Inn; Board Member of First Community Bank; and Chairman of the Board of both Taos Center for the Arts and Taos Talking Pictures.
Although he never considered himself an artist, he was an accomplished nature photographer. An exhibit of his work entitled Journey, A Lifetime of Travel will continue to be on display at the Taos Inn through the end of May.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Haddock of Arroyo Seco, NM, his brother, Robert Smith of Reno, NV, and his children, Linda Giltz of Asburn, NC, Debora Majher of South Euclid, OH, Christopher Smith of Ranchos De Taos, NM, Scott Smith of Roseville, CA and Holly Prull of Bend, OR, along with nine grandchildren.
The family thanks the community for honoring Doug in so many ways over the last year. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity for him to have received your blessings. Private services will be held later in the summer when family will be able to gather.
