Dr. Leo Dow Bradley died on September 3rd, 2006 at 2:10 am. Dr. Bradley was born on May 21, 1927 in Holiday, Texas to Leo Bradley, Sr. and Gladys Ruth. The family moved to Athens a few years later and he graduated from Athens High School. He entered World War II late serving in the Coast Guard for 2 years.
Leo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. He served on the faculty of Criswell College until retirement. He earned 2 degrees from Texas A&M and received his PhD in Education from the University of Houston. He taught every grade level from elementary to college during his career. Over the years, he served as Principal of Longfellow Elementary School and Beaumont High School, Assistant Superintendent in Corpus Christi, and Superintendent in Grand Prairie and Spring Branch.
Upon his retirement, Dr. Bradley and his wife relocated to Taos, New Mexico and built a home. He went to work, at no charge, in his son-in-law and daughter's business teaching emergency response. Dr. Bradley and his wife dedicated their last years to helping their children and grandchildren realize their dreams.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Burgess, and his youngest daughter, Ellen Ruth Dyke. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen of Taos, New Mexico; his two daughters – Dowann Oskins of Taos, New Mexico and Gladys May Shelley of Dallas, Texas; and his son, John Martin Bradley of Corpus Christi, Texas. He has four grandchildren: Jacqueline, Michael, John Dell (JD), and Veronica.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, September 6th at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Dr. George Davis officiating.
