Duane Marr

October 5, 1934 — January 5, 2024

Duane Robert Marr, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, was born in Adrian, MN and passed away at age 89 on January 5, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Mabel Marr and niece Karen Marr.

Duane spent his younger years delivering bread for the local grocery stores by bicycle and playing in the high school band. He graduated from Worthington High School in Minnesota, attended Worthington Junior College, then moved with his family to Oregon where he graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Physics. During this time in Oregon, he worked summers as a fire lookout for the Forest Service.

Duane served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960 working at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. After his service, he proceeded to graduate school and then to Richland, WA where he met his wife Jacqueline and worked at the Hanford site. He climbed several mountains in the Pacific Northwest and was an early member of what became a mountain alpine club. He was a devoted father and husband.

Duane moved to Los Alamos, NM in 1979 to work for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a physicist where he worked until his retirement from Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was well read in anything scientific and enjoyed photography, developing his own prints from film for many years. He designed and built his home in Los Alamos near where he could be seen running or walking through the canyons each morning. In the summer, he enjoyed participating in the pace races aiming to match his predicted time. During his retirement, he enjoyed reading, genealogy, puzzles, and traveling.

Duane is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline, brother Keith (Deanna), daughters Desiree (Scott) and Renee (Adam), grandchildren Vicki, Shannon, Kristin, Adam, David, Alex and Emma, and niece Christin (Steve).
