Edna Serna passed away on January 6th after a very short battle with lung cancer. Edna was 54 years old and spent over 30 years of her life caring for others as a certified nurse aid, caregiver, and medical equipment manager. For the past 12 years, Edna worked as a DJ for KDCE where she was also known as "Edna Del Rio." Edna was perhaps the greatest fan of northern New Mexico music and felt blessed to be a member of the music community. Northern New Mexico music was Ednas passion. Through this passion, KDCE listeners across the world enjoyed the extraordinary and charmingly addicting personality that Edna brought in to the lives of thousands. Ednas favorite pastime was dancing to rancheras, polkas and cumbias. Edna was raised in El Rito, NM by her mother Cora Ortega and grandmother, the late Margarita Ita Ortega. She leaves behind four grandchildren whom she spoiled Cassandra, Ethan, Zoey and Alexis. Edna also adored her three children Ricky and wife Janice; Frankie and partner Rafael; and Margarita (Maggie) and boyfriend Eddie. Edna had two sisters whom she considered her best friends Verna and partner Manny; and Liddie and husband Rick. Edna will be laid to rest with the remains of her late fiancé, Joseph Sawaya. For those whom she warmly guided and counseled, she will be remembered for her words; everything is going to be ok.
