Edward F. Ortega (Dado), 86, lifelong resident of Santa Fe, passed away on May 6, 2012. He was born on October 3, 1925 to Augustina Gurule and Anastacio Ortega and married Stella M. Escudero on October 13, 1948.
Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Stella M. Ortega and brothers, Henry and Ruben Ortega. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia A. Romero and husband Johnny, granddaughter, Kathleen R. Herrera and husband Randy, granddaughter, Amanda M. Romero and partner Kelly, step-grandson, Johnny Jr., great-grandchildren, Christian and Courtney Herrera, Carlo and Emily Fernandez, brothers, Mariano Ortega, Joe Ortega and wife Nora, sisters, Martha Pienado, Margaret Martinez and Dolores Barkell and many nieces and nephews.
Edward retired from the Department of Corrections and was a hostage in the 1980 Prison Riots. He also served as a Sergeant in the US Army in WWII.
A visitation and rosary were held on May 13, 2012 at the Rosario Chapel. A funeral services was celebrated on May 15, 2012 at Santa Maria de la Paz. Burial services followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
