Edward L Gonzales (Gonzo)
Born in Santa Fe, NM, August 10, 1935 and passed away peacefully at home in his family compound off Delgado Street, which is the ancestral property of his grandmother Agripina Delgado.
Edward is survived by his wife of 63 years Patricia G. Gonzales, children Latricia Gonzales-Mckosky (Mike), Lawrence E. Gonzales (Grace) and Luanna E. Salazar (Glen), grandchildren Jonathan and Daniel and great grandson Colter.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo Gonzales and Elizabeth Fayette Gonzales and his 11 brothers and sisters; Anita, Adela, Odelia, Frank, Bob, Joe, Charlie, Rosina, Betty, Felipe and Cecilia.
Edward attended St. Michaels since first grade and graduated in 1955. As a junior in high school he joined the New Mexico National Guard (9 years of service). He also attended the College of Santa Fe. He worked at New Mexico State Engineer Office as a draftsman, then as a Water Resource Specialist in the Hydrographic Survey Section for 28 years, retiring in 1983. He then went to work as a contract consultant in water rights to the US Attorney office of New Mexico for 14 years.
Edward was very committed to his community. He attributed this to his parents. His father served on the City Council and his mother was Secretary of State. Edward also served on the City Council. He was President of the Fiesta Council as well as President of the Caballeros De Vargas. He was instrumental in the preservation of the Guadalupe Santuario serving as the President of the Foundation. He was also on the Board of Directors for Rancho de Las Golondrinas. He was a member of the Union Protectiva , as well as a member of the Sociedad Colonial De Santa Fe Dance Group.
Edward enjoyed his many friends and primos. He loved to camp and was always doing projects around the houses and properties. He was always willing to help family and neighbors with their projects as well.
Services
A rosary will be recited Thursday November 17th at 10:00am, the funeral mass will follow at 10:30am at the St. Francis Cathedral. The reception will follow at the Elks Club.
