Edwin Davis

On Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, Edwin Leo Davis, loving father and friend, passed away at the age of 81. Ed was born in Gunter Texas on June 30, 1941 to Joe and Lona (Williams) Davis. The family moved to Meeker Colorado when he was still very young. He spent much of his youth exploring and getting into mischief in the mountains surrounding Meeker, Gunnison, and Grand Junction where he lived until he was a teen. The family moved to Los Alamos New Mexico where his father was a welder for Los Alamos National Laboratory. He went to school at Los Alamos High School and entered the Navy at 17 on a Kiddie Cruise. He completed 4 years and specialized in communications, primarily decoding. On his return to Los Alamos New Mexico, he cared for his mother and met the love of his life Janie Elaine Davis. They married on April 6th 1963. They raised three children, Bill, Ken, and Susan.

Ed worked many different jobs when he returned to Los Alamos before being hired as an Assignments Man for Mountain Bell. He studied electrical engineering in correspondence courses and earned multiple certificates that allowed him to move up in the phone company as a planner in the early days of fiber network installations throughout New Mexico. He retired from Mountain Bell and spent 20 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory working to better communications utilizing fiber optics and setting up the laboratories own phone company. He had a tremendous work ethic that was driven by his deep devotion to provide the best for his family.

Ed and Janie moved to Los Lunas New Mexico in 2000 for health reasons where they thrived and gained many friends. After Janie passed, Ed downsized to a charming home on the outskirts of Belen NM where he was well known in the community as a generous and charming friend.

Ed was a genuine gentle man that adored his family and friends. He enjoyed hiking and spending time in the great outdoors and he shared this love of nature for years as a Scoutmaster. He had a knack for building both small and large things from HO scale trains to beautiful landscapes. He was a great story teller and loved a good joke. He was devoted to his wife, family, friends, and faith. Later in life he had built a wood shop that was a dream he had. He created many great pieces that he gave to family and friends. He loved his dogs and took them out for many adventures.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Joe, mother, Lona, brother, Bob, sister, Helen, and his loving wife, Janie. He is survived by his children, William Joseph Davis and his wife Sonya, Kenneth Dale Davis and his wife Jennifer, and his daughter Susan Elaine Williams and her husband Travis. He was fortunate to have five grandchildren, Jessica, Tamra, Christopher, Shawn and Jack. He also was fortunate to have three great grandchildren. Along with many other loving extended family members and countless dear friends.

There will be two celebrations of life to accommodate his many friends and family and those weary of travel:

• Aspen Ridge Lodge in Los Alamos NM, March 25th at 10:00am,
• United Methodist Church in Belen NM, April 8th at 1:00pm.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers you make donations either to a charity of your choice or to some local charities that Ed supported.
