Elaine was born in Roy, NM and was the youngest of 4 siblings. Her parents were homesteaders in New Mexico in the early 1900’s, and by the time Elaine was born, her parents were prosperous ranchers in northern New Mexico. Elaine, her older sister, Sovola, and her mother, Elizabeth, eventually relocated to Santa Fe, where Elaine grew up. Elaine attended college at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, NM where she met her husband, Ward Olson. They were married and had two sons, Roy and Mark while living in Albuquerque. Ward and Elaine decided to relocate to Las Vegas for a short time and ran a drive-in movie theater, before moving back to Santa Fe, where Elaine spent the rest of her life. Elaine was a strong, intelligent, and savvy businesswoman. She worked several different jobs as she raised the boys with Ward. Elaine loved dogs and had many beloved pets during her lifetime. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband Ward. Elaine loved spending time with her best friend and sister, Sovola, and they hosted dazzling Christmas parties every year. Elaine has 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who she enjoyed spending time with. In her later years, Elaine looked forward to church every week at Rodeo Road Baptist and Sagebrush Church, getting her hair done, eating a good meal with loved ones, and catching up with her friends on the phone.
Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 3405 Vereda Baja Santa Fe, NM 87505. Sagebrush Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
