Elena Lucero, age 96, was born in Ojo De La Vaca on May 1, 1925. She was a life long resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico until she was called home on March 1, 2022.
Elena was a loving mother and grandmother. She liked papitas and tortillas for breakfast. She loved to cook and made the best tortillas and natillas. She also loved cheeseburgers from McDonald’s. You could always catch her at the bingo halls, she was the bingo queen! She played really good air guitar and loved dancing to Spanish music and Elvis Presley. Elena will be missed dearly by all of her family.
Elena was preceded in death by her sons, Paul Anaya Jr and Lucio Velasco; her son-in-law, Henry Salazar Sr.; her grandsons, Henry Salazar Jr. and Paul Roybal and daughter-in-law, Valerie Herrera.
She is survived by her daughters, Molly (Frank) Bustos, Lorraine Salazar, Frances (Vincent) Padilla, Helen Gutierrez and Rose (Rudy) Griego, Petunia (Rubel) Roybal, Zelda (Simon) Jiron; her sons, Pete and Mike Lucero; 36 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Yvette Velasco, Frances Peters, Loretta Baca, Carmelita Padilla, Anette Griego, Misty Lucero, Martina Lucero, Amanda Roybal and Stephanie Jiron.
The Rosary and Mass will be recited on March 15, 2022 at St. Anne Parish at 9:00 a.m. Directly following the mass Elena will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Celebration of life will be at Elk Lodge immediately after.
