On Sunday, May 25, 2008, Elena Miera Trujillo peacefully passed away at her home in Ranchitos surrounded by her beloved family. She was born to Flavio Miera and Elvira Martinez-Miera on April 17, 1905 at (La Jolla), Velarde, NM. She was raised from age six by her maternal grandparents, Pablo & Francisquita Martinez along with her sisters Lucia, Frances, Margarita and Elvira. While growing up she helped her grandparents with one of the first orchards established in Velarde, NM. She graduated in 1928 from Allison-James School and attended New Mexico Normal (Highlands University), Las Vegas, NM and Dague's College in Wichita, Kansas.
After 53 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her husband Meliton M. Trujillo and children Prescilla Trujillo, Dolores Struck, and Eloy Trujillo. Other family members preceded in death included Lucia and Jerry Martinez, Francis and Amadeo Lucero, Margarita and Frank Bustos, Elvira and Ramon Martinez, Frank and Gloria Trujillo, Maria and Tomas Cruz, Carlos and Stella Trujillo, Beatrice and Marcelino Ortega.
She is survived by Bernabe Struck, Irene Trujillo, Meliton Trujillo, Jr. (Louise), David Trujillo (Rubina Quinto, dear friend), Stephen Trujillo (Dianna), Jake Trujillo. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Elena Trujillo celebrated her 103rd birthday this year. Her life was filled with family, faith and a deep love and caring for all. Family and friends will always remember the joyous times at "la casa en Ranchitos."
Rosary was recited on May 28, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on May 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Pall bearers were Albert Struck, Robert Martinez, Robert Trujillo, Carlos Martinez, Francis Lucero and Jerry Martinez. Honorary pall bearers were Bobby Lavadie, Patricio Finn, Ruth Martinez, Tomas Cruz, Joseph Martinez, Margaret Acton, Patsy Trujillo, Mary Alice Trujillo-Garley, Rita Harvey, Bobby Trujillo, Tina Barajas and Herman Haake.
