Elena M. Vigil, 79, passed away on December 24, 2012 after several months of illness. Elena is a former owner of Gallery Elena in Taos, a business she and her husband established a few years after coming to Taos. With her four children grown and her husbands career in art flourishing, the Vigils moved from California to Taos in the early 1980s. Elena was born in Fort Collins, the second child and only daughter of Ben and Arcenia Montoya. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Veloy and one brother, Edward Montoya. She is survived by her children, Dan Vigil, Rita Vigil-Ferguson (Greg), Sandra Chavez (Vincent) and Michael Vigil (Tanya), grandchildren, Nathan Chavez, Alexis Ferguson, Adam Chavez, Danielle Vigil and Corbin Ferguson, great grandchildren, Benjamin, Emili and William Chavez, Alliyah, Neveah and Ella Vigil.
Rosary was recited on December 30, 2012. Funeral mass was held on December 31, 2012. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos with interment following at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
