Eliseo M. Valdez - a lifelong resident of Española passed away on Saturday, November 5th, 2005 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents: Eliseo and Josefita Valdez; 2 sisters: Olivama Lopez and Herminia Abeyta. Eliseo was born on April 1st, 1927 in Española to Eliseo M. Valdez Sr. and Josefita Montaño-Valdez. Eliseo served in the Korean Conflict as a member of an anti-tank gun crew. Upon discharge Eliseo returned to the Española Valley where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Josephine Trujillo-Valdez. He served as a fireman for the Federal Government in Los Alamos for 21 years, Eliseo was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3314 and the VFW Post No. 5610, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking as his hobbies. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Valdez; 6 children: Johnell Young and husband Bob of Denver, CO, Leonard and fiancée Patsy, Elaine Martinez and husband Robert, Larry and wife Rosalie, Joseph and wife Rachel and Jacqueline Valdez all of the Española Valley; 15 grandchildren: Jenna, Jason, Andrea, Jeremy, Justin, Juanita, Miranda, Leticia, Christopher, Alyssa, Jessica, Joseph Jr., Joshua, Sonya and Monica; 4 great-grandchildren: Christian, Mia, Dominic and Gabriel; his sister, Ofilia Quintana; first cousin, Eloisa Mungia; and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Monday, November 7th, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary. A second rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 8th, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 9th, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Vernon McCall, Jeremy and Justin Valdez, Joseph Valdez Jr, Joshua Valdez and Sammy Quintana.
