Elizabeth "Betty" Salazar

1940 — November 29, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce, Elizabeth V. Salazar "Betty", a resident of Ranchos de Taos, NM, passed away November 29, 2023 at the age of 83.  Born to the late Benjamin and Teodora Tafoya of Cañon, in 1940.  She is preceded in death by her brothers Arthur, Cristobal, & Benjamin; sisters Annabelle, Patricia & Beatrice; daughters Veronica Cordova and Cathy Visarraga; and grandchildren Lisa and Tina Chavez.  She is survived by brothers Tobias, Orlando & Ezequiel; children Yolanda Chavez (Eddie), Yvonne Salazar (Grace), Alex Salazar (Julie) & Francisco Salazar (Daniel), 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren & 3 great great grandchildren.

An accomplished artist, Betty displayed and sold her weavings and paintings at numerous arts & crafts shows throughout northern New Mexico.  If any type of art was mentioned, she had done it, yet her pride was in her weavings.  It was with great detail that she would explain her process from the yarn she spun and dyed naturally.  Then she would proceed to let you know about the numerous looms she had and used for her various weavings.  Betty was loved and cherished by family and friends and lived an extraordinary life.  She was very proud of her children and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and tons of stories to share.

A funeral mass will be held at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. (Eulogy @ 9:40 a.m.) followed by interment at the San Francisco de Asis Cemetery.
