Elma Black, 71, of Taos passed away at home on August 29, 2021. She was born in 1949 in Arroyo Seco. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melquiades Cordova and Juana Neopomocena “Shena” Martinez, in laws, Lester and Angie Black, siblings, Acorcinio “Corky” Cordova, Filadelphio “Phil” Cordova (Rosemary), Creselda, Bertina Fernandez (Arsenio), Joseph Cordova, in laws, Barbara Sprietler and Isaac Rael. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward Black, daughter, Leslie Black, son, Lawrence Black (Hayward), siblings, Clorinda Quintana (Celestino), Leonela Rael, Kenneth Cordova, in laws, Amelia and Phoebe Cordova, Veronica Mares (Joe), Edna Denton (Kenneth), Jerry Sprietler, Lester Black (Martie). Elma grew up in Arroyo Seco and was an avid student. She met her future husband Edward at Taos High School. They were married in 1968 and were inseparable. She was a devoted mother, a gifted teacher, and excellent baker who was well known for her cakes. Elma taught and preached bible studies at several churches. She always remembered her friends and family’s birthdays and holidays. The whole family depended on her sharp mind to keep them in line. Memorial service will be held Friday, September 10th at 2PM at Rivera Chapel.
