Elsie Cardenas

March 13, 1930 — July 8, 2016

Elsie G. Cardenas, OCDS Elsie G. Cardenas, age 86 was peacefully received by our lord into eternal paradise on July 8th 2016. She was surrounded by her caring family, and a choir of angels. Elsie was born on March 13th, 1930 in Questa, NM, into an extremely blissful family. She was the youngest child of a large blended family and was deeply adored by her siblings. Elsie met her future husband, Willie, in high school, and after marriage they moved to Santa Fe. They were blessed with four children. Among Elsie’s greatest gifts to her family were her spirituality, her faith, and her grace. Elsie was a lifelong Catholic and a devout woman of prayer. This led to her becoming a third order secular Carmelite, along with her mother and two daughters. Elsie was greeted into the Kingdom of Heaven by her husband Willie Cardenas Jr., daughter June Cardenas, parents Repito Garcia and Patrocinia Gomez Garcia, In-laws Willie Cardenas Sr. and Celina Herrera Cardenas, sisters Olivama Romero, Lucille Garcia, Emelina Garcia, and Bersabe Romero, and brothers Arsenio Garcia, Flavio Garcia, Eloy Garcia, Antonio Trujillo, and Felimon Garcia. Elsie is survived by her children Gabe, Karl, and Karen, grandchildren Amanda Spiess and Ryan Kreutzer, sister Eulalia Garcia, brother Abedon Garcia, and sisters-in-law Berlinda Trujillo and Rose Garcia, who all joyfully await their reunion with her in eternal life. Elsie will always be remembered as a vibrant person, jubilant wife, devoted mother, fairy god mother, servant of the Lord, and caring grandmother. Elsie was a very special person to many, and her family will be forever grateful for their time together on earth. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 from 6:00p.m. to 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe with a Rosary following prayed by the Third Order Secular Carmelites. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday July 14th, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with internment to follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Serving as Pall Bearers are her beloved nephews, Leroy Romero, Repito Romero, Santa Fe County Sheriff Robert Garcia, Antonio Trujillo Jr. and close family friends Donnie Lovato and Kenny Trujillo. Special thanks to her loving granddaughter Amanda and caring daughter Karen, for making Elsie happy, comfortable and peaceful during her final days. “My mission- to make God loved- will begin after my death.”―St. Thérèse de Lisieux -
