Emilio Gonzales

Emilio “Miles” Gonzales, 73, of El Prado passed away August 18th after a prolonged illness. 

He is proceeded in death by his wife Gloria, his parents Isaac and Maria Gonzales, in-laws Adelina and Frank Mondragon, brothers Isaac, Fernando, Jimmy, Thomas, and infant sister Rafalita Gonzales, brother-in-law Arnold Jeantete, sister-in-law Pauline Cohn, and niece Roberta Miller. 

He is survived by his daughter Mikayla (Andres), grandsons Marcus and Isaac, sister Martha Chacon (Celso) of Wyoming, sister-in-law’s Erlinda Gonzales, Angie Jeantete, Esther Chavez (Peter), Frank Mondragon of Taos, Jimmy Mondragon (Janice) of Denver, and many nieces and nephews.  

Emilio was born and raised in El Prado. He worked for the Molycorp mines for 22 years. When he wasn’t at work you could find him fixing fences, planting peas in the garden, going for wood, or hanging out with his friends in the garage. Emilio loved his animals and always had a dog. He enjoyed camping, fishing, horseback riding, and hunting. He was a man of few words, but you knew you were in trouble when he kept talking.

Emilio was a great father and an even better grandpa. During the summers, he loved pitching balls and shooting hoops with his grandsons, teaching them to garden, and taking them to McDonalds. We will miss his care packages of donuts and Gatorade when we were sick, and his filled cookie jars and cabinets stocked with Capri-sun juice. 

A special thanks to Lourdes Martinez and niece Luz Gonzales for their special care they provided, Red Willow Hospice and nurse Deidre for the support, guidance, and care through the tough battle he fought. He will be missed. 

A rosary will be held on August 30, 2024 at 9 AM at Our lady of Guadelupe with a mass to follow at 10 AM. A burial will follow at Descanso Cemetery.
