Emilio Naranjo 92, passed away Thursday, November 13 after a brief illness in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandrio and Delfina Naranjo brothers, Ramon, Gilberto, Daniel, Nicholas, and sister Lupe, his son Gerald Naranjo, grandson Benny Naranjo, Jr. and granddaughter Judy Naranjo.
He was born April 21, 1916 in Guachupangue, New Mexico and was a life long resident of Espanola, New Mexico. He is survived by son Emilio Naranjo, Jr. and wife Evie of Rockville, Maryland; son Benny Naranjo and wife Amy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter Lorraine Lopez and husband Abedon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Barney Naranjo and wife Stella of Alamosa, Colorado; daughter Susie Salazar and husband Victor of Velarde, New Mexico; son David Naranjo and wife Dolly of Velarde, New Mexico; son Joseph Naranjo and wife Carmen of Espanola, New Mexico; daughter Jeanette Salazar and husband Kenny of La Mesilla, New Mexico; son Larry Naranjo and wife Sharon of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; daughter Beverly Parmer of Ft. Collins, Colorado; daughter Anna Naranjo of Chevy Chase, Maryland; daughter Marguerite Naranjo of Espanola, New Mexico; daughter Cecilia Naranjo of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Raul R.Naranjo and wife Carmella of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Rubel T. Naranjo of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Granddaughter Charlene Arias and husband Michael of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is survived by 38 grand-children, 41 great- grand children, 1 great-great grand child.
Emilio served his country in the US Army. He was a member of the New Mexico State Senate until 1996 and a lifelong public servant. In the Lyndon Johnson Administration he served as US Marshall for New Mexico.
Pallbearers: Robert Naranjo; Greg Naranjo; Robbie Vigil; Martin Naranjo; Ernest Salazar; Davy Naranjo; Anthony Naranjo; and Ismail Naranjo.
Honorary pallbearers: Kenny Salazar, Emiliano Naranjo, Senator Ted Kennedy, Gov. Bill Richardson, Senator Jeff Bingaman, James Duran, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchilden.
Mr. Naranjo will be laying in State at The New Mexico State Capital Rotunda in Santa Fe on Saturday Nov. 15th from 1-4pm.
Public visitation will begin at 12 noon on Sunday Nov. 16th in the Chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary in Espanola. Recitation of the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday Nov. 17th at 11:30 am also at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola with interment to follow at the Church Cemetery.
