Emilio Randall died peacefully at his home on July 5, 2024, after a series of illnesses. He will join his son Lucas, whom he missed and mourned for every day since his passing on July 17, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Feliz Randall, his brothers, David Pacheco and Jim Randall, sister Eva Ortega and husband Paco Ortega. His in-laws Jose Benedicto and Natividad Montoya, Jerry and Anthonette Montoya, and Rosalie Valdez.
Emilio was born on July 16, 1942, in Hollywood, NM, now Ruidoso Downs. He grew up in Tularosa where he attended school and graduated in 1960. He attended Highlands University and received an AS in Electronics, a BA and MA in math and science.
He worked for the Espanola Public Schools for 25 years as a math, science, and computer science teacher. After retirement, he served as a mayordomo for the Santa Cruz Irrigation district for 17 years. During the fall season, he and his son did contract work for Jemez Electric Coop. The job involved riding their mules to check the power lines over the vast area that Jemez serves.
Emilio’s passion was his mules. After moving to Espanola in 1970, he grew to love the beautiful mountains in northern New Mexico. His greatest enjoyment was exploring the mountains on his mules with his son by his side. He was known in the mountains as “El de las mulas”. He loved hunting and his favorite places were Chacoma and the Nogal area in Southern NM. Borrego Mesa was his refuge; he spent much time building an adobe cabin there by himself. Unfortunately, he never completed It.
Emilio is survived by his wife, Stella Montoya Randall, his daughter Ana Marie Randall Romero (Benny Lopez) and her two sons, whom he raised as his own; Nico Randall (Mauricette Campos), Ronnie Romero and Samantha Flores and their two children Mateo and Athena. His grandsons were raised as sons and his great grandchildren were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his sisters Ethel Chavez, Tularosa; Bonnie Arias Roswell, and Mary (Jerry Shockey) Bloomfield. Sisters-in-law Yolanda (Pancho Galvez), Susie Lucero, Ojo Caliente, and many other nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends, including the Martinez family from Chimayo and the Trujillo and Reynolds family from Southern NM.
Services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Holy Cross Church with Rosary at 10:00 AM, Mass at 11:00, followed by burial at Santa Cruz cemetery. Reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Arroyo Seco.
