Ernesto Griego, age 90, a resident of Dixon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15. He was born on October 19, 1922 to Bernabe Griego and Elena Medina-Griego. Ernesto was a foreman/supervisor of Transportation for Zia for many years. He was a soldier/veteran of the United States Army during World War II. Serving his country, Ernesto was stationed in Germany and knew seven other different nations as he also spoke various sayings in French.
Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents: Bernabe and Elena Medina-Griego, one infant daughter, Sadie Griego, brothers: Juan, Manuel, and Celestino Griego, and one sister, Alice Griego. His father and mother in law: Eduardo and Onofre Vigil of Las Trampas. Brothers in law: Ernesto, Henry and Ben Vigil and Sisters in law: Rose and Frances Vigil.
Ernesto is survived by his loving and cherished wife, Lugardita Griego, his children: Delfirio Velasquez and wife Eloisa of California, Becky Sanchez and husband Ross of Arroyo Seco, Sadie Gabaldon and husband Henry of Albuquerque and Clyde Griego of Apodaca. The following were like sons to Ernesto: Clarence Vigil, Horacio Aguilar, and Nelson Aguilar. One brother: Samuel Griego of Velarde and one sister: Lorraine Chavez of Albuquerque. Sisters in law: Eleanor Griego of Apodaca, Ofelia Aguilar of El Valle, and one brother in law: Elizardo Vigil of Utah. Grandchildren: Jay Jay Lopez and husband Joseph, Matthew Sanchez and wife Angelina, Yvette Hetzer, Che Gabaldon and companion Emily, and Luanna Russo and husband Greg. Grandchildren: Merina Hetzer, Arrianna, Alicia, y Isabella Gabaldon, y baby "Angel" Angelica, Alicia, Matthew and Derick Sanchez, and Julia and Jesse Lopez.
A public visitation and devotional service took place on December 18, 2012. Funeral Service took place on December 19, 2012. All services took place at the Apostolic Praise Temple in Dixon with Pastor Salomon Sanchez, Jr. officiating. Burial followed at the Apostolic Cemetery in Dixon.
