Estefanita Romero

Estefanita Romero, 98, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at her home in Dixon, New Mexico on Sunday, December 24th, 2017. She was born on May 18, 1919, in Velarde to Amarante Montoya and Dolores Velarde Montoya. Steffie grew up in Dixon, New Mexico. She is preceded in death by her husband Eduardo “Lalo” Romero to whom she was married for 70 years. They leave behind four children: Edward Romero, Jr. and his life companion Stella Munoz from CA; Clovis Romero and his wife Cecelia from Taos, NM; Ray Romero and his wife Bea from Albuquerque, NM; and Becky Sanchez and her husband Charlie from Penasco, NM. She was blessed with many grandchildren: Virginia Gonzales, Patrick Romero, Minerva Trambley, Clovis Romero, Jr., Victoria Romero, Charlotte Sanchez; and James Sanchez. She was also a great grandmother and great great grandmother to 14 additional children. All of her siblings have passed on: Filomeno Montoya, brother and Rebecca Medina, her sister. Steffi and Lalo, her husband, lived a good life together. They both worked at the Embudo Presbyterian Hospital and retired when the hospital closed. She loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed going out to eat and going to the Senior Center to play bingo. Those who knew her enjoyed her love for life and sharp wit: always laughing and smiling. She drove her little blue/green pickup until she was well into her 90s! Her amazing spirit and the fire that lived in her was due to her faith in God and love for Jesus. It kept her strong through the years. The family is grateful to have had the matriarch of the Romero Family for 98 glorious years. She will be missed deeply, however, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who know and loved her. The family is especially grateful for Ambercare and their staff: Dennis Galvan; Virginia, Claudette, and Daniel. Their compassion and attention from the first day to the last was a blessing to the family. Services are scheduled for Thursday, December 28th at 5:30 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. Entombment will be on Friday, December 29th at 11 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque, NM. A small family gathering after the entombment will be at Furr’s Cafeteria on San Mateo
