Eva Maryol Kurtz

August 13, 1940 - February 12, 2022

Our beloved Eva passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body dementia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony Maryol and Sophia Aleck, her beloved son Kirk Lucero, brother James Maryol, and sister Toni Maryol.

Eva is survived by her son Nicholas Kurtz, sisters Georgia Maryol and Chrisa Cazamias, brother Kirk Aleck (Mary Lou), daughter-in-law Jeanette Lucero, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Eva was born in Albuquerque and graduated from Albuquerque High School. In her youth and teenage years she worked side-by-side with her sisters and brothers in her mother's cafe that was located on Route 66 on the edge of the Atrisco barrio.

She moved to Santa Fe in 1985 to be with family and join the team at Tomasita's Restaurant with her sister Georgia. She worked as a manager there for over 25 years, where she was a regular fixture and beloved by the community. She was especially skilled at squeezing as many people into the restaurant as possible, sitting customers elbow to elbow. She called this method of seating "Greek style."

Eva loved spending time with family and friends, in her later years especially with her granddaughter Kirsten Lucero and friend and care-giver Donna Chavez.

As a devout Greek Orthodox Christian Eva attended St Elias Church and served as treasurer. For many years she prepared special Greek food for fundraisers and the Greek Festival. Eva's favorite activity was attending rock concerts. Her favorite band was Chicago and rarely missed the opportunity to travel to attend their concerts. Eva will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at the St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church at 46 Calle Electra in El Dorado on Saturday, February 19th at 10am, followed by burial in Albuquerque at Fairview Memorial Park. Reception in Santa Fe to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Youth Shelters and Family Services, PO Box 28279, Santa Fe, NM 87592-8279 or www.youthshelters.org.
