Evangeline Alarid Vigil passed away peacefully on January 22, 2016, at age 81. She was born on January, 24, 1934, to Alberto Alarid and Adelia Bustos Alarid at Fairview, New Mexico. Vangie graduated from Santa Cruz High School and then attended St. Joseph College in Albuquerque, NM. She was employed by the State of New Mexico in the Welfare Department. She later became a resident of the State of Nevada where she worked at the Nevada Test Site in Mercury, NV. Evangeline later retired from the Nevada school system.
Vangie was a very optimistic person, a wonderful mother, and very loving and caring. She had a deep love of home and family and a lifetime desire to return to the Santa Cruz area.
Evangeline was preceded in death by her husband, Delfino J. Vigil, Jr.; parents, Alberto and Adelia Alarid; brother, Ramon N. Alarid; brother-in-law, Tobias E. Lujan; niece Angela Lujan-Ogle; and father- and mother-in-law, Delfino and Sara Vigil.
Evangeline is survived by her son, Carlos D. Vigil; brother, Louis Alarid and wife, Marie; sister, Virginia Lujan; niece, Marcia Lujan and husband, Hal; nephews, Alan Alarid, James Alarid and wife, Bonita; sisters-in-law, Henrietta (Adolph) Gallegos, MaryAnn (Joe) Martinez, Patsy Evans, Helen Vigil, and Yolanda Roybal; brother-in-law, Phillip Blea, and many nieces and nephews.
Pall bearers: Dino Martinez, Peter Martinez, Larry Martinez, Joseph Bustos, James Alarid, Phillip Blea, and Larry Roybal.
A Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 7 PM at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at Santa Cruz de la Canada in Santa Cruz. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15.
