Evangeline (Eva) Cárdenas DesGeorges Age 92, passed away on June 14, 2024, of natural causes, at home in Santa Fe, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis J. DesGeorges; grandmother, Sarita R. Martínez; father, José Valentino Cárdenas; mother, Carolina Cárdenas; and brother, Higinio Cárdenas.She is survived by brother, Víctor and spouse Margie Cárdenas; son, Steven R. and spouse Elizabeth DesGeorges; son, Robert L. DesGeorges; son, Frank and spouse Irene DesGeorges; daughter, Marie Yvette DesGeorges; and daughter, Marietta Odette DesGeorges. Grandchildren: Erica Sarah, and David Jr. Martínez.
Eva was born in Taos, NM on May 25, 1932. She married Louis J DesGeorges on November 25, 1950, at the St. Francis de Assisi Church in Ranchos de Taos, NM. The family moved to Santa Fe, NM where she raised her family.
Eva was an exemplary Mother. She based her life on her farm life upbringing, marriage, and Catholic religion. She always put family first, passing down family traditions and a strong work ethic. Her husband Louie expanded her horizons to new experiences, travel, and adventure. Education and working with others were important to her personal growth. She traveled to the various US National Parks, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Greece and Paris, France.
Eva was committed to working and supporting various organizations at St. John's Catholic Church. She worked as an Office Manager, a cook and seamstress. She spent many hours volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul Society, Los Unidos Club, Cursillo (De Colores), and the Holy Name Society. She was a life member with the Altar Society. As a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul, being a native Spanish speaker, she was able to work with numerous Santa Fe Hispanic families, providing spiritual guidance, parenting skills, and means for life improvement.
Eva was a self-taught seamstress, who enjoyed making dresses, especially the designs used during the Fiestas de Santa Fe. She loved using bright colors and would spend hours in the kitchen table or living room floor, cutting patterns. She started off by knitting dresses for Yvette and Odette. She was then hired to produce elegant (high quality) dresses and shirts for a shop in Canyon Road.
Due to her lifelong love, support and dedication toward her immediate and extended families, Eva became an indispensable and much respected member of our community. She was loved and will be missed by all who had the fortune of knowing her during her precious and valuable life.
Funeral Services: On Friday, July 5th, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church: Rosary will be at 10:00 am and mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Reception to follow after funeral services.
