Evangeline M. Cortes, who was fondly called Eva, of Taos, New Mexico at the age of 101 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 22, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eva was born August 17, 1914 as the only child of Ezequiel Martinez of El Pardo and Rosinda Montoya of Taos. Eva married Samuel Santistevan in 1930. Samuel Santistevan predeceased Eva in 1957. In 1958 Eva then married Robert Cortes who predeceased Eva in 1983. She lead a full and active life. She worked for the Federated Store, JC Pennys, Martinez Hacienda and the La Fonda. After retiring, she continued to contribute to the community as a volunteer in the gift shop at Holy Cross Hospital. The people of the hospital loved her cream puffs. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where she was a member of the choir for many years.
She is preceded in death by daughters, Vickie Cisneros, Susan Santistevan and Christina Trujillo, grandson, Matthew Santistevan, daughter in-law and Patricia Santistevan. Eva is survived by her sons, Ezequiel Santistevan (Alberta), Thomas Santistevan, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Eva led a very full and loving life where she enjoyed her family, cooking and singing. Her life often followed a poem that she fondly loved.

Rosary was recited on July 27, 2016. Funeral mass will be held on July 28, 2016. Both services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with reception following at the Parish Hall.
