Eve Rabinowe, 91, born May 5, 1924 departed peacefully at home in Santa Fe after a long, energetic, creative life. She was born in Vienna, Austria and immigrated to the USA in 1938 as a refugee from the Holocaust. Her family settled in Queens, NY, and Eve studied clothing design at the Fashion Academy in NYC. She worked in costume design until she married Emanuel Rabinowe in 1943. As a housewife, she painted furniture and school murals, sewed clothing and costumes; taught knitting and crafts to girl scouts.
In 1961, she transitioned from her homemaking talents into a career as an award winning Copper Enamelist and member of the prestigious American Crafts Council. By 1970, she transitioned again into another career as a FiberArtist. She taught weaving classes at Brookfield Academy and Silvermine School in Connecticut. After her move to Santa Fe, she embarked upon yet another career as a jewelry designer. Her treasure necklaces and knitted garments were featured in the Santa Fe Weaving Gallery. After her retirement from galleries in 1992, she immersed herself in book arts and the study of water-color painting. Eve was a lifelong teacher and mentor to many students and loved-ones.
She is survived by daughter, Victoria Rabinowe, Santa Fe; and son Steven Rabinowe, Denver. A memorial celebration will be held November 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM Contact DreamingArts@gmail.com for location.
